Amazingly enough the best beach in the USA is in Florida and is easily accessible from Orlando - about 100 miles away. Caladesi Island is north of Clearwater and is a timeless gem in the gulf, but is accessible by private boat or via the Caladesi Connection ferry service. Cost for the ferry is $9 for adults and $5.50 for children. Trips depart hourly beginning at 10 a.m. Ferry passengers are allotted a four-hour stay on the island, so plan accordingly if you plan to participate in a guided walk. Alternatively you can walk the 3 miles! You catch the ferry from Honeymoon Island which also has a nature walk to the north of the island.
